Relish the fantastic scenery of the Mekong river on your
cruise from Vientiane to Chiang Saen (Golden Triangle).
The river vessel selected for
the Majestic Mekong is the most comfortable ship capable
of navigating the respective sections of this partly
untamed river. Between Vientiane and the Golden Triangle,
you are traveling on board of the Laotian river cruiser RV
Mekong Sun.
DAY 1: VIENTIANE –
KENG KHAN KHOU (-/L/D)
Check in at 8:00 o’clock at the harbor Khao Leau.
Arrive and welcome on board the unique river vessel,
Mekong Sun. The first German-Lao owned river ship on the
upper Mekong. Settle into your comfortable cabin and
unpack for a five days cruise through the previously
inaccessible wonders of the Mekong. Enjoy the spacious
decks and lounge on board and attend our Welcome Reception
and dinner this evening. A selection of Asian and European
food will be provided throughout the cruise. Today, we
will cruise between Thailand on the left- and Laos on the
right side. The landscape becomes more and more
spectacular with hills covered with tropical vegetation,
impressive rock formations along the river banks and rapid
and slow currents on the river. We are also passing the
NBCA (National Biodiversity Conservation Area) Phou
Phanang.

DAY 2:
KENG KHAN KHOU – PAK LAI (B/L/D)
Breakfast. This morning we will stop and visit
the Lao-Thai border town Ban Hat THieng. In the evening we
will stop at the small riverside community of Pak Lai. It
used to be famous for its many colonial style houses. At
night you will enjoy again the comfort of your cruise
ship.

DAY 3: PAK LAI – KENG LUANG
(B/L/D)
Breakfast. Early this morning we will all go to
see the local traditional market in the center of Pak Lai.
Later. Today, the village Ban Phaleap offers a magnificent
view at the steep rock formation, called Phaleap. Tonight,
we will park at the sandbank close to the village called
Keng Luang.

DAY 4: KENG LUANG – KUANG
SI (B/L/D)
Breakfast. This morning, we will visit a local
hill tribe village of the Khmu minority group. Enjoy the
beautiful view and watch the fisherman along the shore. In
the afternoon, you will see the ferry crossing the Mekong
at Thadeua, connecting Luang Prabang Province with the
Sayaboury province. This last evening on board will be
celebrated with a farewell dinner.

DAY 5: KUANG SI- LUANG PRABANG (B/L/D)
Breakfast. This
morning, we will stop at Ban Muang Khai and continue by
bus to visit the famous Kuang Si Waterfall. We will spend
about 2 hours swimming and relaxing at the falls before we
return to the Mekong Sun and continue to the World
Heritage Town of Luang Prabang.

DAY 6: LUANG
PRABANG (B/L/D)
Today your comfortable river vessel will stay in
Luang Prabang and you will get to know the beauties of
this UNESCO-World heritage town. Apart from numerous
temples, you will enjoy the atmosphere with many French
colonial buildings preserved as well as a great view over
the Mekong, Khan-river and the surrounding mountains at
sunset time. After sunset you can enjoy strolling along
the Mekong promenade or visiting the night market of the
Hmong people.

DAY 7: LUANG
PRABANG – PAK OU (B/L/D)
After leaving Luang Prabang, you will visit a
local Lao-distillery at Ban Xang Hay before continuing to
the famous Pak Ou Caves with thousands of small Buddha
statues inside deep caverns. Enjoy the spacious deck and
lounge on board and attend our Welcome Reception and
dinner this evening. A selection of Asian and European
food will be provided throughout the cruise.

DAY 8: PAK OU - PAKBENG (B/L/D)
Breakfast. Relax on deck or in the lounge and
soak up the remote scenery. Today is full of scenic
highlights. The river traffic will slower as we proceed
upstream and the beautiful landscapes will impress you.
Around noon we will stop and visit an elephant camp, where
we can see logging elephants in action. Later, that day we
will have a short stop in Pakbeng.

DAY 9: PAKBENG – PAK THA (B/L/D)
Breakfast. The landscapes will continue to
impress you with diversity with tropical hills in the
background. Enjoy the tranquility of northern Laos, a real
retreat from the hustle of our daily lives at home. Along
the green hills your river cruise takes you upstream
towards Pak Tha.
Along the way we will also be able to visit a local
minority village of the Hmong hill tribe.

DAY 10: PAK THA –
HUAY XAY (B/L/D)
Breakfast. In the
morning we will do a shore excursion with long tail boats
on the Namtha River to visit a Khmu village. After arrival
on the Mekong Sun we will proceed to the Thai-Lao border
at Chiang Khong (Thailand) and Ban Huay Xay (Laos). Spend
a last relaxing evening aboard and enjoy our farewell
dinner at night.

DAY 11: HUAY XAY – CHIANG
SAEN (B/-/-)
Breakfast. After clearing customs and a short
sightseeing in and around Huay Xay, your river cruise
takes you westwards into the once notorious region called
the Golden Triangle. Today, our spectacular river cruise
ends with our arrival in Chiang Saen, where we will
disembark after check in at Chiang Saen immigration to
Thailand.
